Le cirque à l'école

Chaque mois, nous développons des thématiques dans l'école. Quelques soient les classes, tous les élèves travaillent sur les mêmes thèmes traités en fonction de la sensibilité du professeur. Au mois de janvier le cirque a envahi nos activités quotidiennes. J'étais heureuse de ce choix. Depuis plusieurs années, je suis l'évolution du cirque en France et je trouve son renouveau, grâce à des compagnies comme le Cirque Plume, le Cirque du Soleil, les Arts sauts et bien d'autres, fantastique. Aux tours habituels des équilibristes, clowns et autres saltimbanques s'ajoutent des visions très créatives de la mise en scène des numéros. Dans le cirque nouveau l'esthétisme côtoie la fantaisie, la poésie et l'habilité des gens du cirque. Sans oublier que les animaux disparaissent du chapiteau où ils n'ont, il faut le dire, rien à faire...  Je n'ai pas pu montrer de vidéos de ces compagnies aux enfants mais j'ai pu récupérer celle du petit cirque du sculpteur Calder qui a fortement impressionné les enfants.

Nous avons une salle de jeux et d'apprentissage que nous appelons "Playorena". Les enfants y apprennent des chansons, participent à des jeux... Pendant le mois de janvier, les petits de 4 à 5 ans se sont initiés aux arts du cirque.

On a jonglé avec les balles (lancer avec une main, rattraper avec deux mains), utiliser les objets autour de nous pour se faire passer les balles.

On a travaillé l'équilibre en sautant d'un obstacle à l'autre

On a roulé dans des cylindres de la salle

On a joué aux clowns, aux lions, fabriqué des masques, fait des grimaces

Et bien d'autres activités ludiques ! 

En classe, le thème cirque a aussi été exploité pour tous les exercices autour des chiffres, des couleurs, des formes... On a biensûr colorié, découpé, fait des collages avec éléphants, clowns, singes, funambules, chapiteaux etc.

A la fin du mois, on a préparé un spectacle qu'on a produit devant la classe des plus petits. C'était mignon comme tout. Le spectacle était en musique "ethnique" avec un cd du roi de la clarinette Klezmer "Yom"

IN PLAYORENA

For the circus activity during this month, we can train ourselves in many way (and learn new & easy vocabulary) :

• to catch : an object which is high, someone

• to throw : to someone and throw it back, on the ground, on a carpet, on any object/one's body

• to give : an object to a partner, to take it back or give it to someone else (the children make a circle/sit on the floor)...

• to roll : a ball on the ground, make somebody roll on himself, to roll a friend who is hiding into an object of playrona...
  
  We can mix : for instance, take a balloon from someone's hands, then roll it on the ground to give it to somebody else (children standing in a circle or face to face)

Juggling

Juggle with balls or with any object the child wants in playorena (I can juggle with three balls in a very simple way to catch their attention) :

- Throw it with two hands, then catch it back with two hands

Throw it with one hand and then catch it back with two hands

Throw it with one hand and then catch it back with one hand (this is a bit difficult !)

- Throw it from one hand to the other (directly)

• Pass it from one hand to the other but through another part of the body : for instance take a ball in my right hand, then, pass it under my leg and take it back with my left hand.

- Throw the ball up, make a little movement (clap the hands/jump/bend our knees...) and catch it back.

- A child gives the ball to another child but not directly. The ball has to roll on something (on the floor, on a bench, on a toboggan, on ones legs...) or to get over an obstacle before.

Acrobatics

Pretends we are animals playing with a tamer (the teacher) and :

- Find different way of walking : walk like a crab or a spider, backward, tiptoe, squatting (and jump as a rabbit), rolling on one's self, jumping (kangourou) , get over obstacles (lion)...

- Roll on the ground in different ways

- jump into a hoop (as a lion or a tiger in a circus show) : we should buy two or three hoops

- tightrope walker: walk on a line

- Walk with something on the head

Other suggestions

• elephants : the children gather in a line. They are pretending they are elephants. The elephant chief is first. He makes movements and the other kids have to imitate the chief elephant (they can wear elephant masks, ears and queue)

• balloon sculpture (I know how to do simple ones such as dog...)

IN THE CLASSROOM

clown

- clown's make up

- prepare together and wear clown's clothes (big red nose, bow tie, colourful tie of my father, fake flower, big socks...)

- imagine funny faces : the teacher does grimace and the children have to imitate her (with the tongue, make a big O or I with the mouth...)/ the children make their own grimace in front of a mirror/ we draw grimace on cards. The child picks up a grimace and has to do it.

- tell silly stories and make the other laugh. The first one who laughs has to tell a story to the others

- clown's collage (with a paper/cardboard white plate)

- read a book about clowns

• clown coloring pages and exercises

• We print a big clown poster with a place for the nose (we can create it ourselves on a big white paper). We stick a red nose (pompom) on a thick paper. The child with an eye patch has to put the nose at the right place (like we do with tails of dunkeys)

DIY (Do it yourself) activity

- create lots of different animals mask : lions, horse, tiger. Elephant...

- create the ears and the tail of an elephant

- draw the clown that we will use for the nose game (put the nose at the right place)
